Visit New Hampshire to experience the beautiful fall folliage.
A vacation in the state of New Hampshire is a truly unique experience. The white sandy beaches, rugged mountains, sparkling rivers and breathtaking lakes make it a dream vacation state. From skiing to deep-sea fishing, from hiking to camping, you have a range of activities to choose from. Steeped in history and clothed in a rich colonial past, the seven regions of New Hampshire, with Concord as its capital, give you a taste of heaven on earth!
| THE COAST If you are in search of a vacation by the sea then head for the coast. With an 18-mile long coastline along the gorgeous Atlantic, the state invites you to sample its shore that comes magically alive in the summer. Hampton Beach with its delightful Ocean Boulevard is just one of many beach towns that lays out an array of exciting summer delights for you and your family. Teach your kids to surf, water ski or kayak. Indulge in your passion for deep-sea fishing, whale watching and parasailing. If food is your métier then gorge on the local specialties of lobster, clam and shellfish. Give into your creative urge and build huge sand castles or keep time to the lilting music wafting in the breeze. The year 1899 saw the first of the Hampton beach band concerts. These are as popular now as they were then. A walking tour or a carriage ride of Portsmouth, taking in the elegant colonial homes, is a must. For a crash course in history visit the cradle of the Revolutionary War in New Castle, the Fort Constitution. Take in one of America’s oldest colonial settlement, the Strawberry Banke or go on a cruise to the historic isles of Shoals.
| THE ADVENTURE If it is adventure and outdoor fun that you are looking for, then the Great North Woods and the White Mountains will enthrall you. Indulge in some moose sighting or go fishing, camping, or hiking in the forests or the lakes of the Great North Woods. The Umbagog National Wildlife Refuge, the Thirteen-mile woods and the Weeks State Park are just some of its highlights. The Six Gun Village and Santa’s Village will delight your kids. You can take a drive through the colorful White Mountains, which turn green, red orange and then snowy white, during fall foliage. Take the Mount Washington cog railway to the top of Mount Washington or a gondola ride up Loon Mountain. Ride the historic Conway Scenic Railroad’s Valley train through the Washington Valley. Go down the alpine slide from Attish Bear Peak in Bartlett. Canoe down the many rivers and streams and take in the spell bounding scenic beauty that surrounds you. Wander through the caves of Lost River or explore the Flume Gorge. The Merrimack valley is as exciting as the White Mountains. Canoeing, fishing, kayaking in the rapids or just paddling here is just as stimulating.
| THE LAKES For more fun and games or even some relaxation near the water you need to go no further than The Lakes Region and Dartmouth-Lake Sunapee, home to some of the most beautiful lakes in the country. Lake Winnipesaukee, the largest of the area’s 273 lakes is breathtakingly beautiful. Boating, camping, fishing, scuba diving or cruises, you can experience it all. The view from the legendary Castle-In-The Clouds is absolutely beautiful. A quick tour of the Squam Lake to spot the Loons will exhilarate you. Relax on the Connecticut River and sail or windsurf on Dartmouth’s Lake Sunapee, the only inland lake with lighthouses. Enjoy the antique boat parade between the lighthouses. The Enfield Shaker Museum, the Dartmouth College and the Maple Sugar House are all well worth a visit.
| ABOUT NEW HAMPSHIRE Learn about the hillside community of the Shakers on the 45-minute tour of the 200-year old Canterbury Shaker Village and view their ornamental plantings and arboretum. The museum of New Hampshire History in Concord will take you back in time while the Christa McAuliffe Planetarium will take you to the stars. Call on the Charmingfare Farm and be charmed by over 200 animals of 30 different species. With more than 85 rides and games the century old Canobia Lake Park in Salem is one trip you cannot deny your kids. The Monadnock Region is dotted with charming villages with neatly laid greens, small churches, town halls and antique and crafts shops, all reminiscent of an era long gone by. The picturesque Monadnock State Park, The Cathedral of the Pines and the Colony Hill Market place are all essentially picture book New England. Manchester, just like the rest of the state, has no general taxes and is a great place for shopping. No Matter what time you choose to visit, you will be spellbound by the state’s matchless charm and splendor. Take a vacation to New Hampshire and watch your dreams come true.
